Same here. I can't fast forward with VLC with the cursor and the file closes with about 2 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter. So could not finish watching the game. It may be that the streams inside the MKV container are corrupted BUT I've found that 90% of playing problems are solved by simply remuxing the file. Remuxing takes the video and audio streams and copies them into a new containter. If you are using ffmpeg to remux then there is a lot of info given and I imagine any errors should be shown. I don't remember ever having a file that wouldn't play although jittery output or video and audio going gradually out of sync are problems I've often seen and can usually be fixed by remuxing. In other words, I've never tried to fix the kind of error described here as I've never encountered it. A companion program to ffmpeg is ffprobe, which outputs some info about the file. I've only used it once or twice but I imagine it should highlight if it thinks there is a problem with the original MKV file. A tiny output file suggest to me there is something wrong at the very beginning of the video or audio streams and ffmpeg immediately exited but when exiting ffmpeg always gives a report of what happened and how long it took. That should say what the problem is. If you are trying to remux with one of the many other video encoding or editing programs then there might be a limit with that program.
